14th August 2017 - 18th August 2017
When she was young, Carol Dweck was always fascinated by the way in which some children faced their challenges and mistakes head on whilst some would shy away. Carol Dweck, now a Professor of Psychology at Stanford University, discovered and identified two categories (growth mindset versus fixed mindset) that can group individuals based on their behaviour, in particular how they reacted to failure. Those with a "fixed mindset" believe that abilities are mostly innate and interpret failure as the lack of necessary basic abilities, while those with a "growth mindset" believe that they can acquire any given ability provided they invest effort or study.
Dweck argues that the growth mindset "will allow a person to live a less stressful and more successful life".
And it can be taught.
But to really understand Carol Dweck’s work why not come along to one of her inspirational keynote lectures in person? We’re delighted that Professor Dweck, along with our very own James Nottingham and Martin Renton will be presenting at our Mindset Conferences between 14th – 18th August
