What Makes a CLP Different?

The CLP is a process, not a program

No two CLP projects are the same. Although most schools, pre-schools, and colleges share common issues, it is the make-up of your structures, staff, culture, history, location, budget, parents and students that make you unique. That is why we get to know your context and then design a process starting from where you are and moving to where you want to go.

The CLP is developmental

The process is tailor-made to the needs of the organisation, be it a single building, group, district or region. We include all stakeholders and support everyone to move towards the outcomes that matter most to you.

The CLP involves on-going monitoring

Through learning walks, interviews, and review of student learning data, the impact of the CLP is monitored on a regular basis and the goals or aims are shifted accordingly. We collect specific data that helps us monitor changes and progress in student learning behaviours against your priorities. Our team create high quality instructional data that can be shared with other stakeholders and used to guide decisions. All our tools are shared and taught to staff in order to build capacity for the school to continue collecting and using its own data long into the future.

The CLP works across the curriculum

The CLP is focused on high-quality instruction, challenging students in all content areas. The pedagogical tools and strategies we develop with your staff are adaptable for all disciplines, and the action learning approach to staff development encourages your staff to share the way they are implementing the approaches. The CLP actively encourages staff from different departments to collaborate and create. By working across the curriculum in this way, we also hope to support inclusion in all areas, including equity, English Learners, students with special needs, cultural competency, and SEL.

The CLP enhances leadership capacity

Leadership is pivotal and drives the process from beginning to end, ensuring strong alignment between the goals of the school and the action learning taking place in classrooms. Leaders also form the bridge between the vision of the district and the design of the process. A coaching model embeds distributed leadership through the use of ‘champions’ who receive training to support the action learning process and focus on impact.

The CLP represents smart spending

For 2-4 years, all PD spending can be focused on the CLP, because the CLP is designed to be your school improvement plan. There are learning resources for teacher teams, CL support for institute days and onsite support for modelling. Embedded evaluations throughout the process guide all professional learning.

The CLP creates sustainable improvement

Sustained success requires a shift in culture. This takes time. Time to engage all of your staff. Time to inspire and coach them to evermore expert actions. Time for those changes to transfer to student gains. That is why CLP projects run for 2- 4 years; sometimes longer. The CL team is with you every step of the way – they become an extension of your team and help build the scaffolding that will support long-lasting change.
