Visible Learningplus

In-depth model of change exploring how to use evidence to improve student learning

Visible Learningplus translates Professor John Hattie’s unique Visible Learning research into a process that schools can use to evaluate their impact and track the changes they are making. This ensures long-term sustainable change for student learning.

As the only company licensed to deliver Visible Learningplus in Scandinavia, we have supported 172 schools and 18 kommune across Denmark, Norway and Sweden since 2013.

We are also the only company with the possibility to bring John Hattie to Scandinavia. Typically, we host 2 conferences per year, and agree to two more in conjunction with a co-host organisation. If you would like to know more, then complete the form at the bottom of the page and we will get in touch with you.

Also at the bottom of this page, you will find some of the interviews we did with John Hattie in November 2017. There are more to follow but for now you will find Professor Hattie’s thoughts on class size; the reliability of the VL data; how to secure quick wins in education; and the truth about the impact of feedback.

School Impact Process

Completed over three years, the Visible Learningplus School Impact Process consists of a series of workshops and evaluations that provide school leaders and teachers the knowledge and tools to engage with Professor John Hattie’s research and use evidence to evaluate instructional decisions.

Rather than a one-day workshop or a one-size-fits-all solution to school success, the Visible Learningplus School Impact Process is a one-size-fits-one schoolwide system improvement process that provides the clarity you need to focus on the practices that have the highest impact on student achievement.

Designed to enhance the capability of school leaders and teachers, the Visible Learningplus model of professional learning combines the workshop components of the Foundation Series and Inside Series with Evaluation Tools and Impact Coaching to provide a long-term, sustainable solution to improve student learning and increase schoolwide achievement.

The Visible Learning Research

What Matters Most in Raising Student Achievement? The Visible Learning research is based on John Hattie’s unmatched meta-analysis of more than 1,400 research reviews comprised of over 90,000 studies involving more than 250 million students—the world’s largest evidence base on what works best in schools to improve student learning. From that research, Hattie identified more than 250 factors that have an impact on student achievement.

When educators use strategies that have high effects (greater than 0.4), they can accelerate student learning and maximize their impact. The power of the Visible Learning research lies in helping educators understand which factors have the highest impact on student achievement so they can begin making strategic decisions based on evidence to maximize their time, energy, and resources.

The Inside Series

The Inside Series allows educators to delve deeply into a specific strand of Visible Learningplus or take the next step after the Foundation Series in the School Impact Process. Our team of consultants can help your educators master the practices that create the biggest gains in achievement for students by focusing on their areas of greatest need.

Evaluation Tools

Each Impact Cycle begins with evaluations to establish baseline data against which progress can be measured. Then, working in collaboration with a certified Visible Learningplus consultant, schools will use the results from these evaluations to identify the key elements to focus on during subsequent Impact Cycles and ongoing Visible Learningplus professional learning.

Impact Coaching

Impact Coaches are chosen by you to support the implementation of the School Impact Process. Impact Coaches build school capability, ensuring effective changes are taken up, supporting longer-term sustainability, and ensuring rigorous and ongoing evaluation of the impact of change. Corwin certified Visible Learningplus consultants will train and support impact coaches through seminars, observation, and one-on-one coaching.
